Lectureship at the Leipzig Academy of Administration and Economics

Beate Kling was hired as a lecturer at the Leipzig Academy of Administration and Economics. On November 6, 2025, she gave her first full-day seminar on the topic of “Accessibility and Signaletics in Public Buildings,” which was designed according to the wishes of the participants from the City of Leipzig.

The seminar was packed with content and, in addition to the fundamental question “Why signage?”, covered approaches to signage design – functional and emotional, physical and digital, accessible – as well as an overview of fee and service profiles for tenders and the implementation of planning with and without Building Information Modeling (BIM).

Masterclass as part of the Executive Education course “Building a Globally Successful Creative Business” at the Royal College of Art, London

Beate Kling completed a masterclass as part of the Executive Education course “Building a Globally Successful Creative Business” at the Royal College of Art, London. The course took place from September 17-19, 2025, at the Battersea Campus in the Rausing Research & Innovation Building.

The 12 selected participants came from Hong Kong, Taiwan, Germany, the USA, India, China, France, Mexico, and the UK. The course offered tools and comprehensive exchanges with internationally successful players to learn how to sharpen one’s own goals and focus on future objectives. One of the most valuable aspects of this course is the opportunity to connect with peers on a global scale, exchange experiences and establish lasting contacts.

Requirements planning Signaletics for the Cemetery of the March Fallen

Beate Kling has been commissioned to provide extended construction consulting services for requirements planning for signage for the area around the Cemetery of the March Fallen. The construction of a new visitor`s centre will take full account of the significance of the Cemetery of the March Fallen. As part of the upgrading of the entire site, a guidance and orientation system is to be installed to make the location easier to find and the brand visible, providing barrier-free orientation and doing justice to the garden monument.

The accessibility of the site via two entrances with different functions, the addition of a new building subtly embedded in the park, the location of new services and the cemetery area itself make barrier-free orientation necessary.

The first step is to draw up a requirements plan that creates the information architecture and, based on this, determines a cost forecast for further steps.

Competition decision for the Visitor Center for the Cemetery of the March Fallen

The successful completion of the competition for the realization of the Visitor Centre for the Cemetery of the March Fallen of 1848 and 1919 is the result of more than five years of intensive efforts to prepare the construction of a building that will serve as a further development of the memorial and learning site for the history of democracy and democracy education.

The high-quality, restricted realisation competition was decided at the jury meeting on 11 October 2023. 12 works were submitted. After the elimination of works in 2 evaluation rounds and the retention of 4 works in the shortlist, one competition entry was awarded 1st prize after applications were submitted and the ranking was determined by a vote of 12:1. The architectural firm AFF Architekten, Berlin, emerged victorious in a joint venture with Landschafts.Architektur Birgit Hammer, Berlin.

The winning design meets the high expectations for dealing with the diverse requirements of the site, which is surrounded by architectural and garden monuments, and the building task itself. In addition to a solution that is compatible with the listed buildings, the future visitor center should meet the structural requirements for sustainable construction and enable the functions of commemoration, mediation, learning and exhibiting to be integrated and provide flexibility for usability. The sculpturally designed two-storey building with a circular access gesture appears light and unobtrusive in communication with the elements of the cemetery and the garden monument, embedded in lush greenery framing the building.

As part of her work as a consulting architect for the future user, Beate Kling acted as an expert in the preliminary examination and the jury meeting on the topics of utilisation and function as well as approval and monument protection.
